I Received my Bachelor degree with honors in Computer Science from the Open University, got bored and got a second Bachelor degree with highest honors in Physics from the Technion. I am a student in the RBNI MSc Nanotechnology program. I am fascinated by the field of Biophysics - it seems almost impossible that aspects of something as complex as life can be described by physical models. My other interests include the general theory of relativity (especially its applications in Biology) and quantum mechanics. I received my first degree summa cum laude from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering in the Technion, and went straight to a PhD degree, as a part of the special doctorate program. I'm interested in many aspects of synthetic biology, mainly because of its engineering-like approach to biology; such as the reprogramming of cells that can cause them to re-grow a tissue, or to act as an analytic micro-robot. In order to know how to program living cells, the way we do electrical components, we need to understand how certain processes in biology actually work. Currently, I’m working on the transcription characterization and the creation of RNA-protein structures in vivo. I am a PhD student in the lab. Coming originally from Germany, I received my training for an MSc equivalent diploma in Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Genetics at both the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg (Germany) and University of Almería (Spain). During my participation as a student of the Freiburg iGEM team in 2010 and supervisor of the Freiburg team 2013, I gained insight into the fascinating world of Synthetic Biology. Tapping into the resource of biological parts available in nature, reengineer and recombine them in a modular fashion to build novel tools helps the research community better understand the complex networks in single cells and cell populations. That is where my project comes into play: I focus on the engineering and understanding of non-coding RNAs in mammalian cell systems. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and playing (beach) volleyball. I've participated in the iGEM 2015 competition, taking with my team first place in the "New Application" track and receiving other awards. I am interested in harvesting the therapeutic potential of the human skin microbiome, engineering some of its key members to become a tool that will potentially address key skin conditions.
