We were awarded with the a FET-open grant for synthetic biology consortium that we are coordinating, and whose goal it to decipher the regulatory code.
The consortium includes (aside for ourselves) the Segal, Furlong, Taipale, Teichmann groups and Agilent technologies, and will involve scanning in parallel hundreds of thousands of synthetic regulatory sequences in multiple cell-types/organisms, and simultaneously developing models whose goal will be to distill the underlying regulatory grammar rules.
The consortium’s title is Massive Reverse Genomics to Decipher Gene Regulatory Grammar or MRGrammar.

Synthetic enhancerLaunching of Synth Bio Lab

28 July, 2011

We are happy to announce that the Synthetic Biology Laboratory for the Decipherment of Genomic Codes is now up and running. We are looking for motivated students (M.Sc, Ph.D, and Post-docs) to work on a variety of projects that all involve Synthetic Biology.

We are also open to new ideas and projects suggested by you, provided that they have something to do with the synthetic biology approach.

Cell paper publishedSynthetic enhancer

8 July, 2011

The first paper on synthetic enhancer was published on July 8th, 2011. This essentially lays out the synthetic enhancer methodology, and for all intents and purposes presents the first draft of a biological Rosetta Stone for bacterial enhancers.
